Ayurveda defines the human body in three body types, called Doshas. There are 3 Doshas: Vata, Pitta and Kapha. Each one of us as the 3 Dosha energies in different proportions.

The Dosha body-types

VATA

Vata dosha is a combination of air and space. Vatas are creative, active, and changeable. They may take on many different activities, but they tire easily and require much sleep.

Vatas are typically thin with a light-boned build and a delicate, naturally slender figure. A Vata imbalance can result in excess nervous energy, fear, mental confusion, and anxiety. The physical results are gas, constipation, poor circulation, and insomnia.

PITTA

Pitta dosha is a combination of fire and water. Pittas are competitive, driven, and perfectionists. However, they can also become overly aggressive, jealous, and critical.

They usually have a medium build with well-defined muscles, and strong, warm hands. Because of the fire quality in this dosha, Pitta people tend to have higher body temperatures, and they are very sensitive to direct sunlight and heat.

KAPHA

Kapha dosha is a combination of water and earth. Kaphas are calm and kind. Kapha people tend to be big-boned and amply built, with large, soft eyes and cool hands. They love to eat, but they can go for long periods between meals.

They usually enjoy excellent health, strong stamina, and deep sleep. Imbalances in Kapha can cause withdrawal, depression, and reclusive tendencies.

Live in Balance

Once you know your dosha, you can learn how to live in the way that best honors your body.

Your diet, environment, habits, and other factors can all work together to keep you balanced, healthy, and free from disease.
